Patricia Gove will lace up her skates for the women’s hockey games at the upcoming Canada Winter Games in Red Deer, Alta. next month.

But her role will be that of a linesman, not a hockey player at the national level competition.

Gove has been officiating at hockey games for the past 10 years, since she was 12 years old.

In the last few years, she has been officiating at junior level games as well as at the minor hockey level.

“I love to be out there in the middle of everything,” she said of her role as a hockey official.

Over the years, Gove has watched minor hockey players as they have improved their skills on the ice.

She has also developed some off-ice friendships with other minor hockey linesmen and referees.

She has been a referee in some games in the past, but added that she prefers the linesman role she will have at the games in Red Deer.

While Gove loves the game, she did not begin playing hockey until after she started officiating.

Earlier, she was a figure skater in the Summerland Skating Club, but when the call came for hockey officials, she took up the opportunity.

Since working as a linesman, she has also been playing defence with a Penticton team.

The Canada Winter Games in Red Deer will be held from Feb. 24 to March 2.
