Equestrians to gather for weekend events

It will be a celebration of horse competitions at the Summerland Rodeo  Grounds this weekend as equestrians take part in a number of events.

From Friday until Sunday, riders at all levels will participate.

Event organizers say they are focussing on a relaxing start to the year, with a variety of challenges and classes.

On Saturday, the Summerland Rodeo Grounds Equine Development Committee will host jumping day.

Classes will include everything from beginner jumps to power and speed classes.

Now this year is the Survivor jumper rounds which involve prize money.

On Sunday, the show committee will offer the precision riding of dressage. Riders must follow a specific pattern and are judged on accuracy, quality of movement and attitude. They are awarded points for each part of the pattern.

Many hours of training and practice are required to achieve the high scores that put these riders in the ribbons. This year we are also offering a Western dressage set of classes that will be judged on the same criteria as the English version, but the horses will be shown in Western tack.

The Summerland Rodeo Grounds Equine Development Committee wants to welcome everyone to come out and watch some very talented youth and adult riders; both locals and visitors and support our efforts in the improvements to a great community facility, the Summerland Rodeo Grounds.
