Coach hired to lead Steam

A coach has been hired to head up the newly formed Summerland Steam Junior B hockey team.

Gordon Gamble was born and raised in Edmonton.

In the early 1970s, he played hockey in the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League in Spokane, the Alberta Junior Hockey League in Edmonton, the B.C. Junior Hockey League in Richmond and the West Coast Junior Hockey League in Vancouver.

He then moved to the United States to play with the El Paso Raiders in the South West Hockey League.

For the past 23 years, Gamble has lived in Houston, Texas where he has coached minor and high school hockey teams.

He has also run the hockey-specific Coach Gamble’s Summer Strength and Conditioning Camps and has taught at the Pro Ambitions Hockey School.

Through his Texas connections, he has helped send a number of players to the junior ranks in the United States, Canada and Switzerland.

The new hockey team will hold a prospect camp April 8 to 10 in Summerland.
