Damp conditions did not deter the 2018 Interior Running Association’s Summerland Sweets 7.4K and TriPower 3.2K cross-country races on Sunday.

The event, at the Summerland Rodeo Grounds, drew 102 athletes, ages 10 through 81 participated in the 7.4K distance and 57 in the 3.2K run.

“The annual Sweets/TriPower races have grown to become fall favourites that attract many families from the Summerland and Penticton communities, and well beyond,” said race directors Michael and Melissa Berrisford.

Local athletes fared particularly well on the hilly and fast course with the brother-sister duo of Keagan Ingram (16 years old) and Tayla Ingram (14 years old) placing first overall in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.

Other Summerland athletes who earned top placements were Natalie Benoit, who finished first in the F16-19 category; Jenny Mitchell and Erin Trainer, who finished first and second respectively in the F35-39 category; Janine Jell, first in the F40-44 category; Heidi Ingram, first in the F45-49 category and Carolyn Buzikievich, third in the F55-59 category.

In the Men’s Division, William Rodrigues was first in the M1-15 category, with Holden Berrisford in second place and Holden Girard finishing third. Michael Owen placed first in M30-34 and Michael Berrisford placed second in the M50-54 bracket.

Summerland youths earned top placings in the 3.2K event. Emily Jell first in the F10-12 category with Payton Mitchell second, and Isla Kast third. Emerson Mitchell placed second in the M1-9 category and Alastair Martin was third in the M10-12 age category.
