Dance to benefit Summerland Rodeo Grounds

An upcoming country dance will raise funds to improve the Summerland Rodeo Grounds.

An upcoming country dance will raise funds to improve the Summerland Rodeo Grounds.

The third annual Summerland Stomp will be held on July 9.

“The Summerland Stomp is a good old fashioned country dance,” said Gwen Shaw of the Red Barn Ranch and one of the organizers of the fundraiser.

Entertainment will be by Dale Seaman and Highway 97, performing from 7 p.m. until midnight.

There will be a concession stand as well as the Kinsmen will be running the bar, so this event is a 19 and over fundraiser.

The money raised will be going towards some upgrades and renovations of the Summerland Rodeo Grounds.

Some of the projects that will be going on will be the redoing of the footing, which is the dirt in the main area.

Then they plan to do some work on the concession stand for the next project.

Some of the other future projects will include upgrading the beer gardens as well as adding some more stabling for horses.

“We consider the rodeo grounds to be an untapped resource with lots of potential that would help the economics in Summerland,” Shaw said. “The rodeo grounds also aren’t specifically for horses and horse riders. It’s a multi-use facility where people can go camping as well.”
