Dear Editor:

Our family thanks the municipality of Summerland to deciding to add names of veterans to our cenotaph.

Clifford Borton is one who left a young family, a thriving business and his role as Summerland’s first Scoutmaster to join the Canadian Forces int he Second World War.

He served nearly four years of horrific combat and experienced both being gassed and buried in an explosion.

After the armistice, he returned home to continue his recovery — one of the fortunate ones.

He was my grandfather.
