Dear Editor:

On behalf of many residents of Jubilee Road East, I am writing once again to ensure all are aware of the concerns of this proposed five-storey building height, reduced parking requirements effects and safety due to lack of sidewalks on our neighbourhood.

Again I can only express surprise a $20 million taxpayer-supported project, seemingly in the works for a while, is now suddenly being pronounced, rushed and forced through with no neighbourhood input, with many saying it’s already a done deal by the powers that be. Hopefully input will be sought during development variances process.

I do not see where our neighbourhood is any different from La Vista, downtown, Solly Road or other recent proposals for neighbours concerns and the effects and losses council will be imposing on residents on Jubilee, Richards and Purves roads for loss of views, privacy, sidewalk and road safety and resultant property values.

Imagine after some 30 years you now open your bedroom windows to a five-storey building looking down on you versus Giant’s Head Mountain views.

Why does this proposed project not include sidewalks at time of construction like others mentioned above have done?

Again for the third time I offer forth my assistance in consultation. So far I have not had the courtesy of a reply to our concerns by anyone from the district or applicant or developer directly or through meeting minutes or media or websites.

On a personal note, I believe many residents purchased in Summerland for its small town charm and ease of living versus opening development changing the town towards becoming a Penticton or West Kelowna for potential traffic and social problems, respectfully submitted, regards.

Silver Birch Recreation Committee
