LETTER: Summerland council candidate won award for contributing to sprawl

Satirical award from Dogwood Initiative was given for Kubek’s work while on Saanich council

Dear Editor:

Candidate Ron Kubek is hiding his “light under a bushel.”

His website does not acknowledge his receiving the Pavey Award from the Dogwood Initiative. This satirical award goes to the worst offenders contributing to urban sprawl.

Mr. Kubek, a realtor and former Central Saanich councillor was described by the Dogwood Initiative as “maneuvering to change the rules in Central Saanich to promote urban sprawl on rural and agricultural land.”

His past voting history (available to read on Saanich Voice Online) would suggest that Mr. Kubek would have supported both the land swap and the Banks Crescent development.

Most Summerlanders supported neither.
