Dear Editor:

I saw the recent owl story and photo in the Summerland Review so I thought I would share my story too.

We had a mama make a nest in our backyard and recently she has delivered three baby great horned owls.

We would watch them every day get bigger and she’s she’s done an amazing job protecting them, however, recently one of the babies had fallen out of the nest.

We contacted the owl rescue centre in Oliver but the women on the phone said to just leave it and wish him luck.

We have dogs that would likely interrogate the baby so we called a local guy in Summerland who has experience with owls, who suggested we put him back up on a branch so he could be safe from predators. Today the baby is still perched on that lower branch and the mom is delivering him food.

I just watched the baby eat a snack that the mom picked up. It is the coolest thing. Way to go mama owl.
