Dear Editor:
I wanted to respond to Orv Robson’s question regarding how the traffic the proposed seniors development off Solly Road will be handled.
I believe that in the near future, but after developers cannot be held accountable, Summerland will be asked to finance a bypass that would go down Faircrest south of McClure place to handle the additional traffic.
This bypass basically will take downtown Summerland off the map for these new residents.
I also believe Summerland taxpayers will be asked to foot the bill.
How else to cope with the additional traffic?
You can’t put the sidewalk in people’s living rooms along Solly Road.
I also believe that the current and future doctor shortage is going to have a huge impact on everyone living in the area now.
Only 20 beds were added in the new tower at Penticton Regional Hospital. Those will be taken up by frail elderly awaiting placement in long term care, which this development contributes to as well.
All these folks will age and then what?
I know we need new spaces but this development does not help.
