Dear Editor:

In Canada, we have more oil than we ourselves can use. We have oil we can export to the United States or other countries. The blockade of Russian oil should have no effect on us whatsoever.

One problem is some Canadian prime ministers have closed many of our refineries. I know Brian Mulroney was our prime minister when the refinery at Taylor, B.C. was closed. Who closed the others I do not know.

In view of the fact that we have plenty of oil for our own use and enough to export, it would appear that there is something rotten at play here.

The other thing is that the metric system, foisted upon us by Pierre Trudeau, sure played into the hands of the gas companies. To say that gas was going to go up 10 cents a litre sounded better than to say it was going up 40 cents a gallon.

The carbon tax was another great wrong foisted upon us by the government. It was intended to encourage people to take sky train transit instead of driving their cars. While Vancouver and adjoining cities may have sky train, we in the rest of the province do not have that option. Why should we pay the carbon tax?
