Dear Editor:
It is with saddened hearts that we bid farewell to our wonderful school, Glenfir.
A magnificent campus set amidst the beautiful backdrop provided by the small town of Summerland, populated by staff, educators, students and families all there for the pursuit of a safe and caring environment where our children can receive an outstanding education and grow to become respectful, responsible and active members of our community.
And this is what we had.
Quality teachers and leaders who continuously nurtured our children with their support, encouragement, leadership and positive reinforcement, along with the extra hugs and smiles that made their day.
A community environment that welcomed our children and provided them with a sense of security, belonging and camaraderie between students, all under the roof of a facility that was one of its kind.
High quality education that offered a challenging curriculum composed of a diversity of subjects including physical education, music, public speaking, French, Spanish and student clubs that involved our children in saving the environment and becoming involved in the community.
We are hard working families that placed importance on the quality of our children’s education.
Most of us having to make sacrifices in order to provide the type of education offered at The Glenfir School.
This is a sad time for us indeed. Our last day of school was met with sad faces, tears and uncertainty for our children.
Not only was this a loss for 76 students, their families, the staff, the teachers, but also a loss to our community.
It was our privilege to be part of The Glenfir School, and honor to have our children exposed to the staff and teachers who came to work each day to provide our children with such rich experiences.
To this dedicated staff and faculty, we as parents extend our most sincere thanks and gratitude for all your hard work and dedication, and most especially for your professionalism during the last few days we had at Glenfir.
To the receiving schools in our community, thank you for your support in helping ease this transition.
