The Summerland Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library is pleased to be hosting two local authors as part of Valley Voices Fiction Festival.

Drop in on Saturday Nov. 2 at 1 p.m., for a special reading from novelist Umar Turaki and writer/editor Joanna Cockerline. Join us for an afternoon of literary exploration as they read from their new books, both connected by an African theme.

Turaki’s latest novel “Every Drop of Blood is Red”, transports readers to Jos, Nigeria, with this gripping tale of vengeance.

Publisher’s Weekly praised the novel, stating, “Adventurous mystery fans will be rewarded with a tense and pensive suspense tale.” Turaki’s richly descriptive storytelling brings this region vividly to life, and promises to keep readers on the edge of their seats.

Turaki is also a filmmaker and teaches at UBC Okanagan.

Cockerline’s short story anthology is “Seeing our Sisters.”

Ten stories by a diverse collective of Kenyan and Canadian women, offering insights to family, relationships and sisterhood.

Cockerline is a CBC Literary Awards prizewinner, and teaches creative writing at UBC Okanagan.

This is a wonderful opportunity for readers and aspiring writers to connect with these talented people. Audience members will have a chance to ask questions, and have copies of their books signed.

Reserve the date — Saturday, Nov. 2 —and join us in celebrating our vibrant Okanagan literary community and its exceptional authors.

Caroline McKay is the Community Librarian at the Summerland Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library
