Dear Editor:
I am writing to you today with much support from my family and friends, regarding the current state of the baseball field by Sumac Ridge.
My five-year-old son recently started playing t-ball at this field and I was shocked and dismayed at how run down the park is.
There are dead mice in the dugouts, concrete that is falling apart, loose railings and wood bleachers that are clearly not safe to sit on.
This park, the Living Memorial Park, was built in 1950 as a “living, lasting tribute to Summerland’s soldiers, sailors and airmen as playgrounds and recreational centres for the youth of today and tomorrow.”
It was built to “provide healthy sport (and) for relaxation in beautiful surroundings.”
I would like to see the park restored for the children of Summerland, but also to keep our promise to the men who fought for our freedom during both the world wars.
As a long time resident and homeowner of Summerland I think we should be investing more of our tax dollars to projects that our children can benefit from, and investing less on roundabouts, meridians and sprinkler heads.
