Bad drivers should be ticketed

Pay for the new police station by issuing tickets to all the bad drivers in Summerland. You will make a fortune.

Dear Editor:

Pay for the new police station by issuing tickets to all the bad drivers in Summerland. You will make a fortune.

Walking in Summerland is dangerous. I have never seen so many bad drivers in my life and don’t try to blame it on the seniors in our community.

Drivers young and old are bad.

I have to warn my house guests to be extra careful because walking in a crosswalk is like walking in front of a shooting range.

The crosswalk at the bottom of Giant’s Head Road and Prairie Valley Road is the worst.

I and many of my friends and family have had too many close counters with most vehicles not stopping at the stop line.

Instead they decide to go over the crosswalk attempting to turn left or right without coming to a complete stop.

No one goes the posted 30 kilometres an hour downtown or 50 kilometre an hour on what I refer to the Autobahn (the straight stretch on Prairie Valley Road.)

Buses and large trucks speed down the street like its a highway.

I like the idea of roundabouts because no one stopped at the four-way stops properly anyway, but people are too busy watching cars and trying to see if they can get dizzy going as fast as possible through the circle they don’t see pedestrians crossing.

Everyone jaywalks at the corner of Main Street and Rosedale Avenue where they removed the crosswalk.

I see at least one person walking there every time and not one person ever in the new crosswalk down the block.

A police car saw a car almost hit me in a crosswalk and didn’t even ticket the driver.

So if Summerland and the local police would like to pay for the new police station all you have to do is sit on the side of the road and collect speeding tickets, incomplete stops and not stopping for a pedestrian in a crosswalk. We will be rich.

Please Summerland pay attention, look at the crosswalks to see if someone is waiting to cross.

Slow down. It’s 30 kilometres an hour not 70 kilometres an hour.

Slow down and enjoy the new road with its pretty planters, trees and grass.
