The use of asbestos is banned in Canada. In order to find other markets for this deadly mineral, Canadian mining companies, with the support of the Canadian government, are exporting asbestos to other countries for use in their homes, schools, and buildings. Canada is the world’s second largest exporter of asbestos, after Russia.
Canada opposes an international ban on asbestos, and has repeatedly defied calls for a global asbestos ban from the World Health Organization, the Canadian Cancer Society and the International Labour Organization. Canada is exporting death for economic profit.
