WILLIAM "BILL" ALFRED ROTHFIELD

August 18, 2015

Rothfield, William “Bill” Alfred

May 18, 1932 - August 18, 2015

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bill Rothfield. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Maribel; children Marcia Rothfield (Dean), Brian Rothfield (Tanya), Andrea DeVito (Steve), as well as his grandchildren, Olivia and Julia DeVito. Bill also leaves behind his sister Genevieve Morrison and niece, Heather Morrison, brother and sister in-laws John and Irene Strand; Chuck and Barb Burtch, as well as several nieces and nephews. Bill was born in Trochu, Alberta to Alfred and Catherine Rothfield.  Bill attended University of Denver on a hockey scholarship, where he studied to become a teacher. Bill also attended University of Washington, UBC and received his Masters of Administration at Gonzaga University. Bill’s teaching career led him to Armstrong, Penticton and eventually Kelowna in 1961, where he taught until he retired in 1989. He and Maribel moved to Summerland in 1993. Always the fitness and health expert, Bill stayed active over the years playing golf, gardening, curling, skiing, traveling and visiting the gym. A consummate gentleman, Bill was a wonderful husband, an extraordinary father and grandfather as well as a loyal friend, always putting others before himself. The continuous twinkle in his eye was a reflection of his playful and light-hearted sense of humour. Bill loved to tell stories, while his warmth and inquisitive spirit invited others to share their stories with him. He cherished his family and friends, and so enjoyed the Sunday dinners, bridge games, Friday golf, spontaneous visits, milestone celebrations, and many a happy hour.

We invite family and friends to join us for a celebration of Bill’s life on Tuesday, September 1, from 4pm-6pm at the Summerland Waterfront Resort, 13011 Lakeshore Drive S, Summerland, BC.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the South Okanagan Similkameen Medical Foundation http://sosmedicalfoundation.com/donate-now/.
