In Loving Memory ~
Willie passed away peacefully with her son Ken and granddaughter Carly at her bedside, on December 27 at the Summerland Seniors Village, at the age of 101.
Willie is survived by her son Ken Selinger, daughters Dianne Shandler and Sandra Milner, foster son Ricky Smith (Selinger), along with grandchildren Shawn Godwin, Carly Essen, Justin McIntosh, and six grandchildren.
Willie was predeceased by her husbands John Selinger (father to her children) and James Sheppard.
Willie's remains will be interred beside her husband John in Canyon View Cemetery sometime this spring, at which time a small celebration of her life will take place.
Those who knew Willie will always remember her for her energetic service to others and to the various organizations she belonged to during her lifetime. Devoted to her family, she also found time to serve as president of the CWL, as well as volunteer at the thrift store and served a term there as Convener.
Willie was always a hard worker, a born leader who led by example. In her early days in Summerland, along with her husband John, they built a business and raised a family. Mom became the floor lady at the Cornwall Cannery presiding over a staff of 200 people.
In her leisure time mom enjoyed music as her favourite pass time. Raised on a prairie farm, her family made music together and she learned to sing wonderfully inspired harmonies. Along with Dad they became a musical inspiration to us all whose music we shared right up to her final days. On the day before she passed, she was able to hum along a little bit as we played and sang some of her favourite Christmas music.
The family wishes to offer a special thank you to the staff at the Summerland Seniors Village for their kind and attentive care given to mom during her two years in residence there. Mom always felt comfortable and well looked after.
We the family would also like to extend our appreciation to Dr. McDonald for her exceptional attention for our mother's well being during her demise. Dr. McDonald always maintained an open, easy communication with the family, and always had Mom's best interests at heart.
Rest in peace Mom
The family would also like to thank Everden Rust Funeral Services for their kind guidance and patient service.
