Wally Barton passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the age of 95 while visiting family on the Sunshine Coast, Australia.
He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his daughter Gillian; son Jeremy and daughter-in-law Carol; grandchildren Mandy, Megan, Daniel, Kirsty, and Jason; great grandchildren Malaika and Thijs as well as Klaske, Melissa, and Chris; and all his friends.
Wally was born in South Africa where he grew up, went to school, and excelled at many sports. He flew as a pilot in WWII and then returned to South Africa to farm with his father. He married Erica in 1950 and they moved to Southern Rhodesia where they raised a family and farmed for 50 years. He and Erica came to Summerland in 2002 to be with their family. He embraced his new Canadian home, made many good friends, and became a well known member of the Summerland Golf Club.
Wally lived a full, exciting, and active life, loved sharing his many stories with others, and was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. He took great pride in everything he did, from growing roses to flying and loved his family, friends, and animals dearly.
Wally's Celebration of Life will be held at Providence's Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 10 am.
