Sieglinde Weber (nee Englehardt) left this life fighting for what she valued and believed in, a beautiful and peaceful journey to heaven.
On April 13, 2021, Sieglinde's spirit rose on the wings of a bird that she spent a lifetime enjoying in her gardens- a hummingbird.
Sieglinde spent her lifetime caring for others- first the younger children and her younger brothers in the Schwesterheim orphanage in which she grew up, then the three children of the Pfarrer Bauer family she nannied as a young teenager.
This was followed by the many patients in her loving and skilled nursing care in Switzerland, in Germany and later in Summerland. Sieglinde met her husband Julius in Germany where they married in December 1965, and emigrated with him to Canada to begin their new life together in Penticton.
Her three children- Alexander, Susanne, and Belinda, of course received the largest share of their Mama's care as she retired from nursing to raise the children she and husband Julius had brought into this world in the seventies.
Together on their orchard, Sieglinde and Julius taught their children many of the values they both held dear- hard work, caring for your family, and valuing Mother Nature ! Sieglinde ran the fruit stand and kept track of not only which customers ordered which varieties every summer but also the many intricate details those same people entrusted of their lives.
She was their counsellor as well as their 'Apple Lady', and she never mixed up an order or a major life event between customers. Such was her attention to detail and her genuine interest and love for the people she served.
Sieglinde retired as the Apple Lady at the age of 75 and slowly gave up the gardening she had always loved. Her beefsteak tomatoes were legendary and made the best cheese and tomato sandwiches and she would often give them away to her most cherished customers and friends. Her gardens in August overflowed with buckets of ripe tomatoes, beans, cucumbers and zucchini!
Sieglinde loved her grandchildren, knitting her own original designs to keep their heads warm. Benjamin, Caitlin, Sarah (Alex), Martin, Liam (Susanne), Isaac, and Grace (Belinda and Kevin) will carry forward their Oma's genes and strong spirit!

Our family invites those who knew and loved Sieglinde to join us in a celebration of life to honour her spirit and her memory at the Summerland Research Station Gardens in June (date to be determined due to current covid travel and event restrictions).
We ask that you bring a story or memory to share to make us laugh, to make us cry, and to help us to remember the beautiful spirit that she shared with us all.
Please contact Susanne at susw@telus.net to share condolences or request details on the Celebration of Life.
In lieu of flowers we invite you to donate to the Prince George Hospice House colour walk - under our team Mama's Hummers ( https://www.canadahelps.org/en/charities/prince-george-hospicesociety/p2p/ColourWalk2021/team/mamas-hummers/#participants).
Donations raised for Mama's Hummers will help support the Prince George Hospice House who helped our mama to find her wings.
