ROBERT TOWGOOD

Robert Towgood

passed away January 3rd, 2012 at Moog and Friends Hospice House after a courageous battle with cancer. Rob will be greatly missed by Marilyn, his wife of 50 years and his daughters Leanne and Lois as well as his brother Jim (Karen), and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his mother Jean Towgood, father Jack Towgood and brother Art. Rob was born in 1935 in Summerland and spent many happy years with his brothers and boyhood friend Geoff Solly, roaming the orchards, swimming in Okanagan Lake and exploring Trout Creek Canyon. In 1962, he took over the orchard in Trout Creek from his father and operated it until his retirement in 1994. Rob served on the boards of the British Columbia Fruit Growers Association and BC Tree Fruits for many years. Rob was a charter member of the Summerland Kinsmen Club and went on to become Deputy Governor of the Okanagan/Similkameen/Shuswap Zone. He and Marilyn enjoyed traveling to the different clubs making wonderful friends in the Kin organization. At the time of his death he was a member of the Summerland K40 Club. In his retirement, Rob became an active member of the Summerland Golf Club and Summerland Curling Club where he helped organize the yearly apple pie fundraising production line. Always civic minded, Rob was happy to volunteer for the Summerland Centennial Celebrations and to assist with work on the Trans Canada Trail. Rob loved living in the Okanagan, taking advantage of its wonderful natural amenities, such as skiing at Apex, and sailing his Hobie Cat on Okanagan Lake. A Celebration of Life will be held for Rob in the Spring during blossom time at the family home in Trout Creek, (date to be announced). If desired, a donation in Rob’s memory to Moog & Friends Hospice House would be appreciated: Penticton & District Hospice Society, c/o Moog & Friends Hospice House, P.O.
