Olive Irene HIBBERT

July 7, 2007

Olive Irene Hibbert December 9, 1920 - July 7, 2007 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Summerland resident, Olive Hibbert. Born to Ernesta Crippa and Chester Hoover, Olive grew up with her six younger siblings on her parents farm near the town of Barrhead, Alberta. As a young adult she moved to Edmonton where she worked as a secretary until meeting her husband, George. Olive and George moved to the Okanagan Valley in 1953, fi rst settling in Kelowna for several years and then in Summerland where Olive lived for fi fty years on a beautiful property on Solly Road overlooking the lake. Here Olive tended her orchards and gardens as well as various pets, including, memorably, a family of skunks which she nurtured. Olive was an extremely knowledgeable and skillful gardener as well as an environmentalist long before there were environmentalists. Her lovely home and gardens were a holiday destination over the years for many of her Alberta relatives and friends whom she welcomed with open arms. Meals at Olive’s house were special occasions with vegetables from her garden, her best china and always followed by a fi ne cup of tea. Olive was predeceased by her husband George, her sister Alice, her brother Ernest and several of her brothers and sisters-in-law. She is survived by her sister Daisy, her brothers Herbert, Joseph( Mary), and Alvin (Liz), sister-in-law Hilda as well as many nieces and nephews in both the Hoover and Hibbert families. She was a beloved wife, daughter, sister, aunt and friend and will be missed. At her request no service will be held .Th e family wishes to thank all of those friends in Summerland who did so much for Olive over the years as well as her compassionate caregivers at Summerland Seniors Village. A reception in honor of Olive will be held in Edmonton at a later date.
