Norman PROUSE

Norman John Prouse April 30 th, 1927 - January 6th, 2008 Norm will be remembered with love by his wife Christina, daughter Gloria Mervin husband Ken of Kamloops, son Daniel wife Helen of Westbank. 6 grandchildren and 16 great grand children. Brother Willie Prouse wife Mary sister Muriel Mortimer, and brother Roger Prouse and wife Louise. Norm worked as a meat cutter for Burns meats in Vancouver in the 1940’s where he met Christina and they later married Sept. 22 1945. Norm’s career changed to Hotel Management which moved his family around BC from Surrey, Prince George and Chilliwack. Retirement in Summerland allowed Norm and Christina to spend a lot more time boating, camping and travelling with friends and family. Norm always handled life with a great sense of humour and keen determination demonstrated by downhill skiing to age 65, and water skiing into his 70’s. Been true to form when arriving in Summerland in 1990 Norm joined the yacht club and among other projects got involved in beach clean up programs. In true altruistic spirit he continued active membership for 35 years in the Royal Canadian Legion. Norm assisted elderly disabled people exercise through RECOPE on a regular basis. He was a regular at, and supporter of reading programs in local schools. As a member of the Citizens Night Patrol he demonstrated once again a hands on approach to making his town a better place in which to live. Past President of The Summerland Kiwanis Club and recipient of Summerland’s 1999 Good Citizen award. Norman was a key player in promoting the refurbishing and physical fi nishing of the Walking Pier at Rotary Park, a standing reminder and tribute to a great friend of Summerland. You will be missed by all of us. Thank you to Brookhaven for all your support and love. In lieu of fl owers, donations may be made to the Alzhimers Society. A Memorial Service is to be held at the Summerland United Church, January 13, 2008 at 3:00 pm with Pastor Kent Israel officiating.
