In loving memory ~
The Stathers family is devastated to share the passing of Melissa Stathers (aged 29). Melissa passed tragically in a car accident while driving north of Courtenay on May 11.
Melissa and her fiancé Scott Mielcarski had just moved to Courtenay; their lives were just starting with the purchase of their new house, a July wedding, and a new job at Isfeld Secondary School close to their new home.
This loss has been incredibly sad for those who knew her, the many friends, family, students and basketball teams she coached over the years. She was born and raised in Summerland, attended all the schools and even taught for one year with her father at Summerland Secondary. Melissa loved hiking, cooking, gardening, travelling, coaching basketball and spending time with family.
Melissa leaves behind, her parents Dave and Carol, brothers Jordan and Geoffrey and her fiancé and love of her life of over 10 years, Scott.
In Melissa's memory, the family is creating two bursaries to be given out at Summerland Secondary School and in the Delta School District.
