Mary was born February 28, 1923 in Saskatchewan and passed away June 19, 2016 peacefully in her sleep at Moog and Friends Hospice.
Mary started working at age 11 so she could help out her family and at age 15 she moved to Summerland. She spent her life helping others in need, her door was always open and she was quick to offer you a cup of coffee and something to eat. She loved all creatures big and small, and always had a child, cat or dog on her lap. She will be remembered for her smile, laugh, compassion, beautiful heart and incredible baking.
Mary is predeceased by her husband Ernest Doherty, daughter Lenora and granddaughter Christine. Mary leaves to honour her life; her sons, Sheldon (Marion) Doherty and Albert (Barb) Doherty, daughter Karen (Lance) Ruck, grandchildren: Keri (Mark), Lori (Ron), Kyra and Dawson, great-grandchildren: Chloe, Tyler, Presley and Brynleigh; brother Harvey Carey, her little dog Tia and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Betty for all her help. Dr. Krabbe and the doctors at Summerland Rosedale Medical and Moog and Friends House Hospice for all their care and kindness. No formal service by request. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the SPCA or charity of your choice would be appreciated.
