June 30, 1921 - September 25, 2017

Loraine Wheadon was born as Lena Poworznyk June 30, 1921 on a farm near Hyas, SK.

She was the second youngest of 8 children, growing up with 1 brother Stephen and 5 sisters: Mary, Ann, Rose, Fern, and Nellie.

She left school at the age of 14 and went to work as times were tough in the mid-thirties.

As a young woman she moved to Kitchener, Ontario to be with her sisters. They decided to help her change her name, so she became Loraine Margaret.

Loraine moved out west to Calgary, AB for a better life and there met and married Thomas Wheadon.

Loraine was a skilled seamstress and an avid knitter. She loved to make homemade items for the family.

When Tom retired in 1977, they moved from Calgary to Summerland, BC.

Loraine was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints and had served a mission in The Pas, MB in 1982/83 with her husband as her companion.

As her extended family grew she loved caring for her grandchildren. She and Tom often travelled to see them, as well as their own family members as far away as England.

Loraine always looked forward to time spent with her son, daughter, 10 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Tom in 2008, her grandson Shane Gorner in 2013, and her brother Michael when he was an infant.

She passed peacefully away September 25, 2017 with her children by her side.
