John McMillan Millar passed away on July 11, 2011 at the age of 82 years. Survived by children Janice (Phil) Phillips of Penticton, BC, Cheryl Millar of Kamloops, BC, Lisa (Russell) Ingleton of Edmonton, AB, grandchildren Jaymz Millar and Darren Kirby, great grandchild Dylan Raymond-Kirby, brothers and sisters Margaret Gayton of Tsawwassen, BC, Maureen Feldmann of Palm Desert, CA, Jean (George) Grant of Maple Ridge, BC. Sadly predeceased by wife Clementine “Clem”, mother Edna, father John. “Jack” was born in Chilliwack and moved to Kelowna at age 10 where he enjoyed sheep herding as a lad. Jack introduced himself to his future wife at KSS by throwing snow balls at her backside. He started his career as a plumber and sheet metal worker. He went on to work as a carpenter then progressed to superintendent and on to owning his own companies. Over the years Jack built numerous schools in central BC and was the foreman on the smoke stack at the pulp mill in Kamloops. He finished his career in Penticton building Red Wing Resorts with his partner in Westway Construction. He and Clem enjoyed his retirement in La Vista Estates in Summerland. After the passing of Clem, Jack became a fixture on his scooter in and around Summerland. In his younger years Jack was involved in the Elks Club and enjoyed drumming in the Kelowna Pipe Band. His great loves were hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Jack was a fly tier extraordinaire. Gardening, cooking and especially story telling were his fortes. We would like to raise a glass and tell some stories in his name. Gone but not forgotten. A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on August 13, 2011 at 1:00 p.m., at the Penticton Elk’s Club, 343 Ellis Street, Penticton, BC.
