October 16, 1939 - March 15, 2021
On Monday, March 15, John Love, loyal husband and loving father of three children, passed away at age 81, in Summerland, British Columbia.
John was born on October 16, 1939, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, to Edward and Edna Love.
He joined the military at a young age, and proudly served his country in Egypt, Germany and Canada for almost three decades, retiring at the rank of Warrant Officer. On August 3, 1965, he married Bernhilde (Benny) Horn, in Bad-Sassendorf, Germany. They raised two daughters, Denise and Jeanette, and a son, Peter.
John settled in Summerland to follow his dream of running a farm, which he ran with Bernhilde for 15 years. John was also a well-known postal worker in Summerland for a number of years.
He was a tinkerer and a craftsman, ever restless and generous to the core. He loved building furniture and wooden toys to give away when he wasn't working on some old boat engine or planning what to do with a broken hot tub.
A naturally social person, John loved to bring his friends and neighborhood together with barbecues and campfires. When around town, he was a master of finding someone to share a coffee with and catch up on local news.
But what brought John the most joy was spending time with his family and siblings, especially if there was a Cribbage tournament or fishing involved.
John was predeceased by his father Edward, his mother Edna, his brother Stanley, and his sister Marion. He is survived by his wife Bernhilde, his three children, Denise, Jeanette, and Peter (Satomi), four grandchildren, Patrick, William, Stephanie, and Emma, as well as brothers Allan, Greg, and Brian, and their families.
A family service will be held in Asquith, Saskatchewan, where John will be laid to rest.
