JOHN 'JACK' NORMAN HANCOCK

December 26, 2016

John ‘Jack’ Norman Hancock

August 5, 1922 - December 26, 2016

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Hancock. He leaves to mourn his daughter Gail (Jim) Hunt of Summerland, BC, son Mike (Maryanne) Hancock of Barrie, ON, son-in-law Ian Douglas of Port Carling, ON, grandchildren Michelle(Scott) Piquard, Ralohn Hunt, Janine Douglas, Jeff Douglas, and Keene Hancock; and great grandchildren Ryleigh, Camryn Douglas and Mateja Piquard. John was predeceased by his wife Doris and daughter Janice in 2010, and brother Bill in 2015. John was a veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and met his wife Doris after the Second World War. John and Doris settled in Ontario where they owned and operated a hunting and fishing camp on Lake Nipissing. He later lived and worked in Toronto. His semi retirement was spent on 300 acres just outside of Parry Sound, ON. They eventually moved from Ontario and bought a beautiful home in Faulder. They spent many wonderful years enjoying the Okanagan and spending time with their family. John loved to fish, hunt and spend time in his garden. He was a very talented wood carver and his carvings have travelled around the world. He was most noted for his quail and loons, which have made their way into many homes in Summerland and the Okanagan. He was past president of the Summerland Rodeo Association and had many horses over the years. He loved to spend most of his time outdoors and took solace in the wide open spaces around him. He will be greatly missed by his family. There will be a celebration of John's life sometime in the Spring of 2017. Condolences may be directed to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com250-494-7752.
