Jean Lauer (née Hague), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and cherished member of the Summerland Community passed away July 30, 2024 at the age of 84. Jean was born March 9, 1940 in Victoria, BC. She spent her childhood and youth in Gibsons, BC and in Merritt, BC. She met her husband, Frank Lauer, in Gibsons at church where they married before moving to Summerland.
Frank and Jean eventually moved to the family farm where they raised a beautiful family. Jean was a two-term city councillor, supervised census and electoral enumeration, was instrumental in initiating the Summerland Home Care program for seniors, and recycling program for Summerland.
Jean worked closely with the Summerland Research Station, Federal Apple Marketing Board and BC Tree Fruits. Jean was known for her love of being outside in her garden, her dedication to the family farm, and her love of horses.
She was also active in the Summerland Singers and Players, designing and sewing most of the costumes as well as singing the lead role in most productions. She also created Halloween costumes for her grandchildren. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, she was deeply involved in her church through the music ministry. Jean always stood up for what she believed in and helped anyone in need.
Jean is survived by her loving husband, Frank J. Lauer, of 66 years, children, Francis (Carey) Lauer, Catherine Lauer, Michael (Lisa) Lauer, Monica (Robert) Wilcott, David Lauer, Nathan (Yvette) Lauer, Rachel (Trevor) Eisner, 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren as well as by her sister, Clare (Steve) McLellan.
Predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Mary Hague, sister Kat Whitlock, brother John Hague, infant son Matthew Lauer and infant grandson Francis Wilcott.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mariposa Gardens and Penticton Hospital for the care Mom received in her final years.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 23, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Child Parish, Summerland, BC. Father Gabriel Chinnaperiannan and Father Pavlo Myts officiating with interment in Canyon View Cemetery.
