October 24, 1920 - February 13, 2022
It seems very fitting that our father joined his much-treasured wife of 72 years, May, in time for Valentine's Day, at the age of 101.
Jim Mayne leaves behind his loving family, two sons Gerry (Heather), Ron (Pat), and daughter Betsy (Alan). He was a much-loved Grandfather of James (Brooke), Melanie (Mike), Pamela, Darren (Michelle), Ben, Tracey (Jay), and Great Grandfather of Kieran, Morrigan, Travis, Lexi, and William.
Jim was born in Summerland, to Ben and Jessie Mayne. He was raised on the family orchard, with his late brother Norman, on Garnet Valley Road. He had a great love of the outdoors and fishing. He enlisted in the CRAF during W.W.2, working with RADAR in Suffolk and Lincolnshire. He received a King's commission and was proud to serve as a Flying Officer, with the RAF. A postal romance with May during his 3 years in the UK saw, on his return, a whirlwind marriage taking place. May and Jim set up a life together, on the family orchard on Garnet Valley Road.
Jim enjoyed politics. He served as an Alderman on Summerland Town Council from 1968 to 1975. in 1977, he went on to serve on the Courts of Revision.
Many happy trips around the fishing lakes of B.C. filled Jim's life. A trip to Hawaii, a cruise to Alaska, and several visits to Betsy and Alan's farm in North Yorkshire, England, to visit the grandchildren, provided lots of joyful memories.
The family would like to offer their most sincere thanks, to the staff of Prairie Valley Lodge, for their sympathetic, and dignified care of Jim, in his final days.
There will be a family-only graveside service held in late Spring/early Summer of 2022. Condolences for the family can be left at www.providencefuneralhomes.com
