Jack Peter Ratzlaff
passed away peacefully on April 14, 2011 at the age of 84 years. The son of the late Jacob and Sara (Voth) Ratzlaff, survived by children Graydon (Maureen) of Tappen, BC, Marla (Paul) of Nova Scotia, grandchildren Jason, Marlana, Timothy, Brian, Bethany and Sarah, brothers and sisters Matilda Unruh of Delta, Frieda Unruh of Clearbrook, Sadie (Herman) Schutze of Surrey, Vern (Helen) Ratzlaff of Saskatoon. Sadly predeceased by his loving wife Agnes “Kitten” (Unruh). Jack “Doc” Ratzlaff grew up in Saskatchewan, beginning his career as a schoolteacher in BC before returning to college to become a dentist. He practised dentistry in Summerland, Peachland and OK Falls, and also taught Dental Assistants at the Wascana Institute in Regina, finally closing his practice and retiring at 82. He loved classical music, organ and church music and sang in several choirs over the years. Jack possessed a deep abiding faith and was a member of the Summerland Baptist Church. He was an avid ham radio operator, known around the world as VE7DDS. Jack loved to travel and saw most of the world during his life. He served on several voluntary medical missionary teams in Taiwan, Egypt, Albania and Cameroon. He was well loved for his humour, his kidding, his generous spirit and his keen fashion sense. Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Summerland Baptist Church, 10318 Elliott Street, with Pastor Larry Schram officiating.
