January 10, 2012

Eldridge, Herbert Lougheed

1913 - 2012

Herbert “Bert” Eldridge passed away peacefully January 10, 2012 at the age of 98 years at Summerland Seniors Village. After 35 years in Lions Bay, BC, Bert and his loving wife, Winifred Eldridge moved to Summerland in 1996. Winifred predeceased him in 2000. Bert will be lovingly remembered by his brother, Ken Eldridge of Delta; his daughter, Diane (Glen) Witter; and his son, Rod (Lynda) Eldridge, all of Summerland. Bert was blessed with five grandchildren: Ian, Neil, Sandra, Mike and Shannon and eight great grandchildren. He will be missed by family and friends. The Army sent Bert to Europe in WWII where he saw duty as an electrician. He was held over in Germany through 1946, helping to maintain a military hospital. A special thank you is extended to the Veteran’s Affairs Canada who assisted Bert through his latter years. Bert had an eclectic life experiencing careers ranging from pharmacist’s assistant, to logger, iron worker, electrician, bus driver, gas station owner and more. He was active as a volunteer serving with Lions’ Bay Incorporation Committee, Goodwill Charities, Stry Bowling Alley and the Summerland Kiwanis Club. His passions were raising birds, fishing, gardening and helping people. The family wishes to thank the excellent and compassionate staff of Summerland Seniors Village and Dr. Bannerman who together made Bert’s last few months comfortable. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations in memory of Bert Eldridge to the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Shop, P.O. Box 1377, Summerland, BC, V0H 1Z0. There will be a celebration of Bert’s life in the spring, when his flowers are blooming. Condolences may be directed to the family through providencefuneralhomes.com.
