Hazel WILKINSON

April 30, 2009

Hazel Wilkinson, 84, of Abbotsford, BC died peacefully on April 30, 2009 in the Christine Morrison Memorial Hospice, Mission, BC. Hazel was born in Warman, SK in 1924 to Abe and Lena Nasserden. She had two sisters and one brother and became a school teacher in Calgary, AB where she married Jack Wilkinson in 1949 and raised three sons, Will, Charles & Lorne, all surviving, with wives Tashina, Tina and Lynette, and six grandchildren, Nicholas, Nadya, Pablo, Fabio, Alexis and Shaun. Hazel and Jack moved to Peachland in 1973 where they led active retirement lives. They relocated to Abbotsford in 2006. Jack died that October and Hazel moved into the Mission Hospice two years later, March 13, 2009. Hazel was a force of nature. She will be remembered fondly as an exuberant, take-charge doer of what needed to be done. In her autobiography she wrote, “I look a bit different now but, inside, there’s still a wide-eyed little girl, eager to embrace everything this fascinating world has to offer. I’m content with my life today and when I look back on all that’s happened, I can honestly say, it has been nice!”

The Wilkinson family donated a bench that overlooks the lake in downtown Peachland near First Avenue. Friends are invited to enjoy a quiet moment remembering Hazel there. No public funeral services are planned.
