STEIN, Gordon Stanley
September 17, 1925 - January 24, 2012
With heavy hearts, we as a family announce the passing of our beloved father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather and “Fishing Bubba”. Gordon passed away suddenly to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 24, 2012, at the Penticton Regional Hospital. Born in Wetaskiwan, Alberta, he was the eldest child of William and Marie Stein. Gordie served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. On return to Summerland, he became a well-known and respected orchardist while also working for the Corporation of Summerland. His joy was his family, the Toronto Blue Jays, the BC Lions, and the Vancouver Canucks. He also was an avid fly fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a founding member of the Summerland Kinsmen and K-Forty clubs. Even though he had lost his eyesight at an early age, he will be remembered for his unwavering sense of humour, positive attitude in life, and amazing memory and knowledge, which kept us all awestruck. He will be missed by children Sheryl (Don) Quast, Sam (Joe) Gardner, Norm, Howard (Laurie), Leonard (Carlene), Beverly (Wade) Freeman, Debbie (Jamie); 10 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and by his brother Harold, of OK Falls, BC and sister Eleanor of Seattle, WA. Sadly, he was predeceased by his second wife Eileen and one granddaughter. A Celebration of his life will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday February 4, 2012 at the Summerland Royal Legion. Donations in memory of Gordie may be made to the Summerland Legion Fund.
