Gordon SMITH

Gordon David Smith passed away peacefully April 27, 2010 in Penticton Hospital at the age of 95 years. He was born in West Summerland to Alex and Johanna Smith. He is survived by his wife Ellen and daughters Sheila (Dan) Forster of Enderby, Alison (Jim) Hara of Summerland and Heather (Bill) Beamish of Queen Charlotte, grandchildren Julie, Keith and Gordon Forster, Jaclyn and Dawn Hara, Torey and Jaymes Beamish. After attending Sprott Shaw business school in Vancouver, he returned to Summerland to work for the municipality, later serving for many years as clerk. He also was a member of the RCAF during WWII. A lifelong member of the United Church, he also was a charter member of the Summerland Rotary Club. He was active in the Masonic Lodge, Curling Club and other community activities. He treasured his family, including many cousins, nephews and nieces. He was ever the gentleman – thoughtful, kind, generous, friendly with a warm welcoming smile. A Memorial Service will be held May 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Summerland United Church, 13204 Henry Avenue, Reverend Kent Israel officiating. Interment will be at a later date.
