Fredrick William “Bill” Croft was born on August 30, 1913 in Clyde Forks, Ontario. Bill grew up on a farm in northern Saskatchewan. The family later moved to Flin Flon, Manitoba and Bill was employed at the mine there until the war years. Bill married Velma Rawson in 1942. Enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy, he was stationed in St. John’s, Newfoundland. After the war he returned to the mine in Flin Flon. A son, Ronald, was born in 1946. In 1951, the family moved to Summerland, BC where land was purchased and Bill became an orchardist. His great passions were his orchard and curling. After retirement, he golfed in the summer and curled in the winter. Bill’s wife Velma passed away in 2000. He was in declining health the last few years at the Dr. Andrew Pavilion care home. He was also predeceased by his sisters Katheryn Witwicki and Florence Macdonald and his brother John Croft. Bill is survived by his son Ron, sister Marge Wade, brother Laurie Croft, numerous nieces and nephews, grandchildren Ronda Vezina and Lynette Loza, great grandchildren Aleshia Loza, Blaine Pageau and Nickolas Loza. A memorial service for Bill was held on Monday, November 21, 2011 at the Summerland Funeral Home, 13205 Rosedale Ave., Summerland, BC. Interment followed at Canyon View Cemetery.
