Frederic Anthony “Tony” Ritchie
1936 - 2011
of Summerland, BC passed peacefully June 25th at Kelowna General Hospital at the age of 74 from injuries sustained in a car accident on May 8th. He was predeceased by his parents, Duncan Irvine “Bud” and Dorothea Ellen “Billy” (nee Sheldon-Williams) Croft. Tony was born on July 17th, 1936 in Sooke. He spent most of his life in Victoria, but also lived in Katz, Seattle, Vancouver, and New Westminster. He attended Shawnigan Lake Boys School. After 5 years with the RCAF, Tony then worked at the Esquimalt Naval Base for 30 years prior to retiring in the Summerland area. Tony is survived by his devoted partner of 12 years Patt Becker, Tony’s brother Mike (Marlene), sons Michael (Laurie), Pat (Jennifer), Patrick, daughters Susan and Karen. Grandchildren: Cassandra (Dustin), Jennifer Marie, Anthony (Aleks), Justin (Skyla), Keri & Dylan. Great grandchildren Jacob, Hannah, Paxton and Elizibeth. He was also “Poppa Tony” to Patt’s children and grandchildren: Denise (Kaiden, Talena and Tamara) and Chris & Shona (Jacob and Brendan), uncle to Mike and Marlene’s children Scott and Dawn, will always be remembered by Rose Holbrook, and very special friends Harold (Helgy) and Warrene Helgerson, and their children Coleman and Hailey. Tony was an avid golfer, having long years of membership at Royal Colwood G.C., Cedar Hill G.C. and Summerland G.C. (past President). His other hobby was gardening of all types, but his passion was roses. At their home in Summerland, Patt and Tony had grown a large assortment of ever blooming plants and enjoyed entertaining in their back yard. Tony was a loving father, grandfather, partner, friend, and golf buddy, who enjoyed being with family and friends during many gatherings, including their annual Garden Party. Our family would like to thank Dr. Foster, nurses Kim, Kelly and all the other unsung heroes in the ICU at Kelowna General Hospital, who all offered experience, patience, compassion and guidance through this difficult time. A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Summerland Funeral Home, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, Summerland, BC, followed by a Garden Party for guests at Patt and Tony’s house.
