Erika Wachowiak (Schaefer) passed away peacefully at KGH on Tues.
Jan.24th after a sudden but brief illness at the age of 82. Born in
Germany, Erika moved to Canada at a young age to travel and work
for a year but never returned to live in Germany. She met the love of
her life, Frank Wachowiak, in Winnipeg, and soon after, they married
and moved to Vancouver BC. After retirement, Frank and Erika’s love
for the Okanagan brought them to Summerland. In 2015, Erika moved
into assisted living in Kelowna to be closer to her daughter, Susan, and
her two grandsons. Erika always had a smile on her face and loved the
company of friends. She had a special love for children, especially her
two dear grandsons, Eli and Matthias.
Erika will be loving remembered by her two daughters, Heidi Wachowiak
of Edmonton, Susan Wachowiak of Kelowna, grandchildren Eli and
Matthias of Kelowna her dear friend of 70 years, Johanna Miskov, as
well as numerous good friends both at the coast and in Summerland.
Erika was sadly predeceased by her husband of 43yrs, Frank
Wachowiak, in 2000.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Friday Feb.10th at Our
Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1370 Church Street Penticton, with Pastor
Curtis Aquirre officiating. A reception will follow the service. Friends
are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Erika’s
name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of BC.
