Ellen Anna Smith passed away peacefully, at the age of 88 years, on October 2, 2011 at the Summerland Seniors Village, with her family by her side. Ellen was born in Elrose, Saskatchewan and educated as an RN at Prince Albert Hospital. She worked in Melfort, Saskatchewan and Vancouver before moving to Summerland where she met Gordon and they married in 1950. Ellen is survived by three daughters; Sheila (Dan) Forster, Alison (Jim) Hara and Heather (Bill) Beamish, grandchildren Julie, Keith, Gordon, Jaclyn, Dawn, Torey and Jaymes, sisters-in-law Carol and Pat Torrance, numerous nieces and nephews and many close nursing friends. She was sadly predeceased by four brothers, one sister, nephews Dale and Doug and, in 2010, by her loving husband Gordon. Ellen was active in UCW, Eastern Star and Rotary Anns. She enjoyed friends, family, travel, music of all kinds and community activities. A memorial service was held on October 11, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Summerland United Church, 13204 Henry Avenue, Summerland, BC. Interment followed at Peach Orchard Cemetery.
