Edward George Wesley “Ted” Miles

of Summerland, BC passed away peacefully August 10, 2009, at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, at the age of 91. Ted was born in Poole, Dorset, England December 31, 1917. He grew up near the harbour where he developed his love for boats and fishing. He married Jean on December 25th, 1939 while on leave from the RAF. He later toured Africa, Sicily and Italy with 145 Squadron. His three daughters were born in England prior to the family’s move to Canada in 1951. Ted worked initially at the Penticton Memorial Arena where he was always proud that he had made ice for the world champion Penticton Vees. Following a heart attack in 1956, Ted learned drafting by correspondence and went to work for Inland Natural Gas where he stayed until retirement in 1982. Ted not only had a passion for Canada, but also for life in general and that included fishing, golfing, painting, music and photography. He is survived by his loving wife Jean, daughters: Valerie (David) King of Wimborne, Dorset, England; Gillian (Fred) Lindsay and Judith (Dale) Stevenson of Okanagan Falls, grandchildren: Shannon (Dean) Stevenson of Cloverdale; Matthew Stevenson of Ladner; Andrew (Claire Walker) Lindsay of Montreal; Joanne (David) Johnson of Bentonville, Arkansas and great granddaughter, Jessica Johnson. Now reunited with his beloved brother John and sister Audrey. He will be sorely missed by all of his loving family in Canada and England. Heaven will be enriched with his presence. Donations in memory of Ted can be made to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. Memorial Service was held August 21st, 2009 from St. Stephen’s Anglican Church, Summerland, with Rev. Rick Paulin Officiating. Interment followed in Church Memorial Rose Garden.
