It is with great sadness that the family of Edna (Scotty) Reside announces her passing. Scotty was born in Toronto, attended Nyack Missionary College and married Rev.Merrill Reside in 1949. They moved to Paris, France and then to Djuring, Vietnam as missionaries, with daughters Lynne and Nancy, returning to live in California in 1955.
Their third daughter Barbara (Bobbi) was born in 1956. They moved to Kinnaird, BC where fourth daughter Bonnie was born in 1960. Graham was born in 1964 in Toronto.
Scotty taught at Mohawk College in Hamilton and then at Seneca College until her retirement. They were committed to Christian ministry at Kinnaird, Cheyne (Stoney Creek), and Willowdale Presbyterian Church (Toronto). They moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake in 1986, and Chippawa Church and enjoyed retirement travel and running a small bed and breakfast for a number of years.
Their five children -Lynne Reside, Nancy Reside-Smith (Allan), Bobbi Reside, Bonnie Reside (Fraser Ramsay), and Graham Reside (Klarissa Oh) live in BC, Ontario, Nashville, and Portland.
Her grandchildren - Sara Reside (Leigh Manton), Caolan and Rachel Barr, Melissa Vose (Brent Vose), Chad Smith (Morgan Dyck), Megan King (Casey King), Katie Warriner, Hunter and, Madison Ramsay, Anna, Miriam, and Ezra Reside and Moses Laws.
Great-grandchildren - Kaleb and Ryen Manton, Ayden, Matthew, Riley, and Amarys Vose, Birch and Bennett Smith, and Oliver and Clover King brought great joy.
They moved to Summerland in 1994 and very much enjoyed their life there. After Merrill died in 1996, Scotty continued to live in their beautiful Okanagan home until her failing vision made it necessary to move into independent living at Angus Place in Summerland. She lived there for almost 8 years approaching her 98th birthday and enjoyed it immensely.
In March 2021 she moved into LTC at The Hamlets in Vernon. Scotty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother/great-grandmother, a very sociable person with a great sense of humour who loved to entertain, and a strong believer in her Christian faith. She modelled the importance of standing up for your beliefs and instilled a sense of compassion and justice towards others.
She valued education for herself and all her offspring and encouraged life-long learning in all of us. We were truly blessed to have her as a mother. Many people loved and admired her and will miss her. A special thanks to the care providers who provided such compassionate support in the last year of her life.
