Long-time Summerland resident, passed away in Vancouver, where she grew up. Born in Cranbrook to British war bride, Margaret Adkin and Canadian cavalry officer and Klondike gold rusher Henry Buell Hicks, she is at rest, after a long, full life.
UBC Economics graduate, WWII Air Force vet, outdoor enthusiast, teacher, Town Councillor, democratic socialist, environmentalist, choir member, bridge and tennis player. Sheila outlived her husband, Bert and brothers John, Arthur and Henry. She leaves daughters Joyce (Eric), Janet (John), and son Don (Val), grandchildren Gavin (Kara), Fraser (Teresa), Fiona (Josef), Nora, Aislinn (Eric), Caely, John, Gwyneth, Sarah, Chantel, Joe, and Tiffany (Joseph) and 3 great-grandchildren. Sheila will be missed by the extended Hicks, White, Cyr and Shaw families. She is remembered for her keen intellect, quick wit, strong opinions, ethical beliefs, determination, warmth, curiosity and love of nature. The waves from her impact will ripple through the lives of those who knew and loved her for years to come.
Special thanks to the caring staff of Arbutus Manor, where Sheila spent her last months.
A Funeral Service will be held at St. Stephen's church, Summerland on November 2 at 2:30 pm. A Celebration of Life is planned for the spring in Trout Creek.
