Dorothy May Parker (Nee Kent) of Summerland, BC, passed away on July 13, 2024, at the age of 99. A Celebration of Life is to be held on Monday, July 29, 2024, at Providence Summerland Chapel, 13205 Rosedale Avenue, at 1:00 pm, with an interment to follow in Canyon View Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on December 8, 1924, in Lethbridge, Alberta, and was raised on the family farm outside of New Dayton. After finishing high school at Tyrrell Lake, she went to the Galt School of Nursing, graduating as an R.N. in 1947. She took a post-graduate program at Women's College Hospital in Toronto.
She returned to Alberta to nurse in Elk Point, where she met Laurence Parker. They married in 1951 and subsequently moved to various C.N.R Stations including Coalspur, Craigmile, and Beiseker in Alberta; and Telkwa and Houston in British Columbia. Along the way, they had and raised four children.
Dot and Larry first retired to Oliver in 1985, then moved to Summerland in 1989, where they enjoyed golfing, curling, and Bridge. Dorothy continued to be active with the Senior's Drop-in, participating in the lunches, bridge, and carpet bowling. Most recently, she enjoyed playing crib with her friends at Angus Place.
Dorothy is survived by her brother, Stanley Kent of Lethbridge, AB; her son, Allan of Smithers, BC; daughters, Beatrice of Grand Forks, BC, and Nancy (Greg) of Athabasca, AB; 6 grandchildren, Jeremy, Josh, Kenneth, Kristine, Sarah, and Ashley; and 5 great-great-grandchildren, Sacha, Sati, Vladimir, Jax, and Ried.
Dorothy was predeceased by her loving husband of 53 years, Larry, and her daughter, Donna Gail Parker.
