DERRICK JOHN SUROWSKI

May 17, 2016

SUROWSKI, Derrick John

On May 17, 2016, after a thirteen year courageous battle with cancer which he fought with dignity, Derrick Surowski, passed away peacefully with his family by his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 39 years Denise (Williams), son Tyler (Ashley and his precious little granddaughter Ada), and son Shane (Angela). He is also survived by uncles Ed (Pat) Surowski, Fred Boc, cousins Carol (Bob, James and Allan), Donna (Ryan and Miranda), Barb (Charlie, Chloe), Steve (Brenda), Kari (Danny, Mikayla, Chase, Dylan), Chris (Leanne, Sarah, Marisa), Todd (Trina, Matthew) and his loving in-laws Harry and Lil Williams, as well as many more extended family and special friends. He was predeceased by his father John Surowski in 2001. Derrick was born in Calgary in 1956, moved to Winnipeg in 1964, and moved to BC in 1967. He worked for Safeway for over 40 years. Derrick’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. Derrick loved coaching his boys in baseball and hockey and his love of baseball led to him being inducted into the Baseball BC Hall of Fame in 2013, and the BC Babe Ruth Hall of Fame in 2014. The family wishes to thank the Andy Moog hospice house caring staff and Nurses who took such good care of him and also a special thanks to Dr. Caskey, and Dr. Masson. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Moog & Friends Hospice House would be appreciated.

“Tomorrow’s Another Day.”
