ARTHUR FREDERICK JACQUES

December 16, 2011

Arthur Frederick Jacques passed away on December 16, 2011 in Moog and Friends Hospice House. Born on November 26, 1925, in Leduc, Alberta, Art grew up on the family farm in Ardrossan, Alberta. He was involved in the Boy Scouts in the 1950s and ‘60s, and he ran the farm until moving to Summerland in 1966. Art married Elsie Hack in 1968 and worked in the maintenance department of the Summerland School District from 1975 until retirement in 1990; many locals will remember him as their school bus driver during that time. He was active in the Summerland Kiwanis Club and in the Summerland United Church. An avid birder, gardener, and camper, Art loved the outdoors and was a member of the local naturalists’ club for many years. Art’s health had declined in recent years, and he passed away peacefully just three hours after Elsie, his wife of 43 years. He will be greatly missed by his family and by his many friends in the community. He is survived by his son Tom of Summerland, daughter Alison (Bill) of Montreal, grandson Max, and sister Eileen (Jim) Hack of Summerland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brother Cyril (Jean) Jacques of Sherwood Park, Alberta. Memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Summerland United Church, 13204 Henry Avenue, Summerland, BC.
