D. Allan McRae

14 Aug 1916 – 7 May 2017

Allan McRae died peacefully at his home in the Summerland Seniors Village in the evening of May 7, 2017. Allan was born August 14, 1916 at the family farm in Aylesbury, SK to his parents Donald McRae and Jane (Forfar) McRae. The McRae’s were a family with a strong and vibrant faith that Allan lived by all the days of his life.

Allan married his wife, Leona Bessie Larson in 1942, and continued the family tradition of farming in Aylesbury for quite a number of years. His love of the farm, being a farmer, and rearing horses was apparent to all who knew him. They had one daughter, Deanna, who moved to the United States and married William Abernathy. After several decades of farming, Allan and Leona moved west, making their home in Summerland, BC. He left the farm, but the farm never left him. He remembered it fondly and in the final days of his life he talked about what needed to be done on the farm.

Allan was predeceased by his wife, Leona (1921-2009), his daughter Deanna Abernathy (1944-2010), his sisters Mary (1911-1963), Jean (1913-1989), Laura Isabelle (1914-1936), Grace Adams (Norton) (1919-2014), and Donalda (1923-2015); and brother Lloyd Patton McRae (1909-1997). Allan will be remembered by nieces, nephews, and family friends. A graveside service celebrating his life was held on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Canyonview Cemetery.
