In addition to the individual municipal elections this October, the directors for the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen will also be elected.

So far, at least one candidate has filed their papers to run in every electoral area, and some ridings will have multiple candidates to choose from.

In Electoral Area B, Cawston and the Lower Similkameen incumbent George Bush is being challenged by Joseph Domijan for the seat.

In Area D, which includes Skaha East and Okanagan Falls, incumbent Ron Obirek is running again and being challenged by Matthew Taylor, a member of the Okanagan Falls Community Association.

In Naramata, Area E, incumbent director Karla Kozakevich has not filed her papers to run as of Friday before the nomination period closed.

Three other candidates have registered so far; Adrienne Fedrigo, Anita Molaro and Jason Cox.

Cox had previously run multiple times for mayor and council in Penticton.

In Area I, which includes Apex, Kaleden and Twin Lakes, Mike Campol has launched a bid to challenge Subrina Monteith for the director’s chair.

In Electoral Areas A, C, F, G and H, the only registrations are for the incumbent directors. Those directors are Mark Pendergraft, current RDOS chair and Area A, Rick Knodel, Area C, Riley Gettens, Area F, Tim Roberts for Area G, and Robert Coyne for Area H, rural Princeton.

The final day for candidates to file their nomination papers is Sept. 9 at 4 p.m.

If there are not enough candidates who have filed to run by the end of Friday, an extension can be made for late nominations under the Local Government Act.
