When Highway 97 closed at Kaleden due to a collision on Dec. 1, there were no alternative routes available.

The only routes that could provide a detour were closed that day.

Utility work has closed Eastside Road that connects Penticton to Okanagan Falls on the east side of Skaha Lake. That closure is in effect until Dec. 22, according to DriveBC.

Green Mountain Road was closed Wednesday due to high winds knocking trees down onto the road. That route is now reopened.

In the case of potential future incidents, which are all too likely given the significant increase in traffic along Highway 97, Green Mountain Road, despite its length, will likely be the only alternate route available.

If you are travelling, make sure to check DriveBC before you go for any news and updates for potential traffic issues.
