After one of the worst fire seasons on record for the province, the Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has made a video to give their thanks.
The RDOS’ Emergency Operations Centre created the video to acknowledge the work of the more than 750 responders involved in the 2021 wildfire season, including firefighters, search and rescue teams, BC Wildfire, emergency support services, the RCMP, First Nations Health Authority, Interior Health and other services.
Members of the RDOS board, as well as representatives from the local Indigenous bands, offer their words in the video.
The video also thanks the many emergency operations centre personnel, which includes members from the RDOS, local Indigenous communities and municipalities.
“On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to thank everyone who provided their support and expertise during the 2021 wildfire season,” said newly-elected RDOS chair Mark Pendergraft in a release. “Your dedication and commitment to service are greatly appreciated.”

The RDOS EOC is located in the area of sn’pintktn within the traditional, unceded territory of the syilx people in the Okanagan Nation. Following the 2021 wildfire season, knowledge and language keepers from the Okanagan Nation shared a word with responders, which captured the spirit of cooperation and means helping each other: kn’kn’xtwix (kin-kin-i-twew-h )
